Falken Ziex ZE320 review

Falken’s Ziex ZE320 excels in wet and dry conditions with impressive composure and grip. It's a deserved winner with few weaknesses

Almost out of nowhere, the Falken scored an impressive victory, beating some excellent tyres to take a first win. We’ve tested the Ziex ZE310 Ecorun a few times before, but it has never been as impressive as the ZE320 was here. It topped the table in three tests, including setting fastest lap times on both the wet and dry circuits, illustrating its excellent all-round ability.

On the wet circuit it inspired confidence from the first corner and quickly settled into a calm, effective groove, delivering superb traction and lateral grip and feeling agile but stable; it was no surprise it was more than half a second ahead of the next quickest. It was on the podium in both aquaplaning tests and around the wet circle, the only anomaly being in the key straight-line braking test where it was sixth, 2.2 metres behind the best.

But it set the pace in dry braking, stopping almost 0.5 metres sooner than the next best tyre, and it had the measure of the dry circuit too. It tacked neatly and quietly through the demanding sequence of turns on the first lap and even though it was over-driven a little on the second lap, it was quicker still. Rounding out a highly accomplished performance that far exceeds that of earlier Falkens with a similar name, the Ziex ZE320 was third quietest, according to our noise meter, and was also reasonably economical.

Blackcircles says

“Positively rated, with more than 1,100 reviews giving 4.6/5 ‘would buy again’. Customers mention good performance in all conditions, good grip and low driving noise.”
