Renault Scenic and Koleos ranges get new trim levels and extra kit
Slimmed down trim levels of Scenic, Grand Scenic and Koleos offer reduced choice but lower entry-level prices
Renault has simplified the trim levels of its Scenic, Grand Scenic and Koleos models. The two MPVs in the range see their line-ups slim down from four trim levels to three, while the Koleos SUV is now only available in one of two specifications.
The Scenic and Grand Scenic’s previous entry point was Expression+, which is now replaced with ‘Play’. This starts from £21,390 - £620 less than before - when equipped with a 138bhp 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol, and £23,640 for the 1.5-litre diesel with 118bhp.
Spec levels are slightly better than before, so on top of the previous car’s standard 20-inch alloy wheels, seven-inch infotainment system, keyless entry and climate control, the Play adds rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The new Iconic trim takes the place of the outgoing Dynamique Nav. Beyond the Play’s kit list, it adds front parking sensors, TomTom navigation, privacy glass and a sliding centre console which houses extra USB ports, a 12V socket and an AUX input for back seat passengers. The Iconic costs £22,690 for the petrol and £24,530 for the diesel, which is £1,320 less than the Dynamique Nav.
The top spec Signature adds £1,600 to the price of the Iconic. It takes the place of the Dynamique S in the Scenic range, and features a larger 8.7-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and one touch folding benches (second row in the Scenic; second and third rows in the seven seat Grand Scenic).
The Grand Scenic costs between £1,800 and £2,000 more than the equivalent Scenic, so a top spec Grand Scenic Signature diesel costs £27,930.
Under the new WLTP efficiency testing procedure, the Scenic 1.3-litre petrol is rated at 47.1mpg, while the diesel is claimed to hit 57.7mpg. In the larger Grand Scenic, the petrol’s figure drops to 45.6mpg, while the diesel’s remains the same.
The Koleos is now offered in a choice of Iconic and GT Line trims, with the previous range-topping (and expensive) Initiale Paris dropped. Each is powered by a 173bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine equipped with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It’s offered with a choice of two or four-wheel drive, the latter of which adds £2,000 to the asking price.
Iconic models are fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, all-round parking sensors, tinted windows, part leather seats, and a reversing camera which is displayed through a seven-inch touchscreen that features sat nav as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Top spec GT Line models add LED headlights, leather seats which are heated for driver and front passenger, an automatic tailgate, and an 8.7-inch touchscreen.
Like the Scenic, prices for the Koleos have dropped too. At £27,495, the Koleos iconic is £550 cheaper than previous equivalent. The GT Line model starts at £29,495.
All revised versions of the Scenic, Grand Scenic and Koleos are available to order now. Buyers of the SUV will have to wait until November for deliveries, while the Scenic variants are available immediately.
