Japan Mobility Show 2025: the key new cars from each brand
The biggest manufacturers in Japan have gone all out at this year’s Tokyo show, here's what's been revealed so far…
The 2025 Japan Mobility Show is well under way with domestic manufacturers revealing futuristic new concepts, cutting-edge tech and giving us a sneak peak at the next generation of cars coming our way.
All of the big Japanese brands have a presence in Tokyo, and while there have been some surprises so far, the Japan Mobility Show is a great opportunity for manufacturers to impress.
But why does this event bring so much exciting news with it? Apart from the fact that it’s only held every two years, the 2025 Japan Mobility Show is even more significant, partly due to the threat posed by new Chinese rivals, who are eating up global market share, the backbone of the Japanese car industry.
So not wanting to be outshone at home, or abroad, here’s our rundown of all the brands’ big news so far.

Japan Mobility Show 2025: new cars
Toyota
The Japan Mobility Show has been a busy event for Toyota so far, because it didn’t just have one brand’s worth of announcements, but news from all of its arms, including Lexus, Century, Gazoo Racing and Daihatsu.
We’ll get into Lexus below, but for now Toyota kicked off proceedings by revealing the next-generation Toyota Corolla concept, which has seen one of the world’s most popular cars undergo a radical transformation. Set to be available in ICE, plug-in hybrid and fully electric guise, the new Corolla concept might look like pure fiction, but it’s very close to the car that will go on sale in 2027.
However, there’s more than just a new Corolla coming. Toyota has also revealed the new smaller Land Cruiser FJ model, based on the same rugged underpinnings as the Hilux Champ, a small commercial pick-up legislated for developing markets. This mid-sized off-roader is expected to rival the likes of the forthcoming Land Rover Defender Sport, but it won’t be making its way to the UK.
Toyota’s Century brand might not have a huge following outside of Japan, but that's all set to change as the ultra- high end sub-brand revealed its Century Coupe concept. The Toyota Century first launched in 1967 and has been Japan's answer to Rolls-Royce and Bentley, but now the Century Coupe concept offers us a glimpse of what's to come from the pinnacle of Japanese luxury.
Gazoo Racing announced that a V8-powered GT racing car is on the way, while Daihatsu is giving the Copen a new lease of life in Japan.
Lexus
So far, Lexus has unveiled a crazy six-wheeled van concept, which could be the flagship LS model, as well as an electric Sports Concept that is set to go into production alongside a V8-powered GT car from Gazoo Racing.
Lexus has also pulled the covers off its new Lexus LS Coupé concept, which previews a future Range Rover Sport rival. It will take over from the LS saloon as the pinnacle of the range and will sit above the existing RX.
Honda
Honda’s Tokyo presence is also pretty massive, with the Japanese giant revealing brand-new near-production prototypes, one being in the form of the Honda Super-N electric city car and the other being the Honda 0 Alpha, a rival to the Skoda Elroq.
The Super-N compact EV is based on the Japanese-market Honda N-One e kei car and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Inster, Fiat Grande Panda and Renault 5. Honda’s US arm Acura has also pulled the covers off the RSX SUV concept.
Mazda
So far, Mazda has stunned visitors at the Japan Mobility Show by unveiling its Vision X-Compact concept, previewing what the next-generation Mazda 2 supermini might look like.
Little is known about the model so far, aside from the fact that it might be internal combustion or hybrid-powered and should arrive in the next few years.
There’s also the Mazda Vision X-Coupe, or ‘Cross-Coupe’ four-door concept, which is a looking glass into a potential Mazda flagship in terms of design and technology. Mazda also revealed how its direct carbon-capture technology could save the combustion engine.
Nissan
Nissan’s announcements for the mobility show have so far been relatively low key, but we suspect there’s more we’re not yet being told.
Officially, Nissan will reveal an updated version of the Ariya EV, plus a new Elgrand – a sort of high-end mid-sized van. However, we also suspect a couple of concepts might be on show.
The previous edition of JMS in 2023 showed off three concepts we didn’t expect, previewing iconic models such as the GT-R and Juke, and the Elgrand that’ll be revealed in its production form this time around. So, this could mean we’ll have a better look at a new electric Juke we know is in the works, or the brand’s latest stage of GT-R production.
Subaru
Subaru has revealed two new STI concepts, one with a petrol powertrain and the other with pure-electric power.
Specifics have yet to be revealed beyond the exterior design; but the EV is set to be purely a concept which evokes the brand's rally heritage and what future Subaru performance cars could look like.
The Performance-B STI ICE version is based on the current-generation Impreza hatch available in overseas markets.
MINI
MINI might sound like an odd addition to the Japan Mobility Show, but the brand is there in force where it’s showing off its new collaboration with British fashion designer Paul Smith.
Similar to Paul Smith edition MINIs of the past, this new model adds a selection of colour and trim changes to the MINI Cooper Electric and will spread to petrol-powered MINI Cooper models in the future.
Suzuki
Suzuki has brought a whole range of new products to the Japan Mobility Show, from tiny electric-kei cars and scooters to robot dogs.
The most exciting news to come from the Japanese manufacturer so far is the Fronx FFV concept. The Suzuki Fronx FFV concept is a small crossover which can run on a twenty per cent mix of E20 ethanol-blended petrol.
There’s also a CBG (Compressed Biomethane Gas) concept car on display, which is based on its Victoris SUV.
