Smart Brabus ForTwo and ForFour range priced from £16,320

Warmed-up Smart Brabus ForTwo and ForFour city cars get power boost, sporty look and stiffer suspension

Smart is revealing its souped-up city car range at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, with the Brabus versions of the Smart ForTwo and ForFour bringing extra power to the brand's updated line-up. Pricing starts from £16,320 and rises to £20,610

There are three versions available: the Smart Brabus ForTwo (£16,320), the Smart Brabus ForTwo Cabrio (£18,460) and the Smart Brabus ForFour four-seater (£16,815). It's set for deliveries in September in the UK, and gets a 108bhp turbo petrol engine and an upgraded suspension set-up for sportier handling.

An extra 19bhp and 23Nm of torque (up to 170Nm) means the ForTwo Brabus goes from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds, nearly a second faster than the standard 89bhp model. The Cabrio has the same figures thanks to its weight-saving one-piece chassis design, while the ForFour version manages the sprint in 10.5 seconds, compared to 11.2 seconds in the standard version. It does manage a higher top speed however, with the ForFour reaching 112mph compared to the ForTwo's 103mph.

The engine now emits 102g/km and returns 62.8mpg in the ForTwo and 104g/km & 61.4mpg in the ForFour and ForTwo Cabrio.

The suspension has been tweaked to be 20 per cent stiffer, a new anti-roll bar has been fitted and there's a sports exhaust at the back. The steering has been changed too, with the aim being to provide more feedback to the driver. There's even a new launch control function for the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which optimises engine revs for a quick start.

Visual changes include a new rear diffuser with chrome tailpipes, new alloy wheels (16-inch and the front and 17-inch at the rear) and a sportier front bumper design. All models get a panoramic sunroof as standard, too.

A new Brabus Xclusive equipment pack is available for the car, and adds leather sports seats, an upgraded instrument panel with a rev counter, Brabus-branded floor mats, heated seats, LED lights and parking sensors. No UK prices have been confirmed yet, but we expect the car to start at just over £17,000 when it arrives in September.
