Bridgestone Turanza T005 review

The best tyre, by some margin, for high-mileage drivers, but we can see why better wet grip is a performance target for its successor

Before we get on to the performance of the T005 in our tests, we need to mention the new Turanza 6. Bridgestone revealed that tyre last year, but it was not available in this size when we conducted our tests.

The T005 is a multiple test winner and the manufacturer was keen to see if it could add more silverware to its trophy cabinet before the arrival of the tyre’s successor. However, it has to be happy with a joint second place.

Bridgestone focused on fuel economy in the development of the T005, and it had an advantage of around four per cent over most of its rivals, apart from the Goodyear.

And as we have seen before, it’s extremely difficult to combine economy with good wet grip. Across the wet tests, the Bridgestone finished joint seventh with the Kumho. It stumbled most noticeably in braking, where it needed a full two metres more than the winner.

While its eighth in cornering was pretty much on the pace, its general shortage of lateral grip could be felt on the handling track, where grip started to be lost earlier than the best. Reassuringly, the rear was well controlled.

Blackcircles.com says…

"Customers rate this tyre 4.6/5 overall. Most highlight its suitability for all conditions, improved fuel economy and reduced noise."
