Yokohama Advan Sport V107 review

A decent performance overall. The new Yokohama has a preference for the dry, while high rolling resistance puts it on the thirsty side.

We haven’t tested Yokohoma product in some time and the new Advan Sport V107 puts in a decent performance, getting in among the big European brands. It’s stronger in the dry than the wet, yet was fifth in straight-line wet braking, just over a metre off the top performer.

It was equal seventh on the wet handling circuit, where traction out of turns was a little lacking and it felt up on its tip-toes through the mid-lap sweeps, and so lacked the positivity of the best. Third in curved aquaplaning and seventh in straight aquaplaning rounded out an average wet performance in this company.

Dry braking gave the Yokohama an outright win, its 32.2-metre average stop from 60mph being almost a metre better than the second-placed tyre. Dry handling saw it fourth equal, just a half a second off the pace, and it felt grippy and tidy, though it needed to be bullied a little to make all the clipping points.

It returned low levels of cabin noise, but was noisier over raised manhole covers. It was also the only tyre with rolling resistance in double figures, as per its EU tyre label, making it the least economical tyre. Its competitive performance overall was still within two per cent of the best.

Blackcircles.com says…

“This tyre is well received – rated 4.5/5 overall. Customers note the good driving experience, as well as low noise.”
