Bridgestone Potenza Sport review

Another strong performance from the Bridgestone, especially in the wet, making it an excellent choice.

The Bridgestone was our winner the last time we tested this size of tyre, but has to settle for second this time, despite a complete reversal in its wet braking performance. It was last in the previous test, yet finishes top this time, setting the standard at 27.5m, almost a metre better than the next tyre.

It backs this up with fourth and seventh in the aquaplaning tests and third in wet handling, its lap time just 0.5 seconds off the best, and this despite some tentativeness. It’s agile but not with the confidence of some tyres, requiring delicate handling, and it was troubled by the standing water, perhaps reflected by a low ranking in the curved aquaplaning test.

It was much more positive in dry handling, setting the equal best lap time with the Pirelli. While the Bridgestone wasn’t as adjustable and agile as some, it delivered strong grip and so had no trouble nailing every clipping point. It was crisp in the transitions, too, and showed strong traction. The tyre was joint second in dry braking, within a metre of the best, and was quiet on the noise meter. Rolling resistance is high, so it’s not the most economical, but its consistency earns it second place overall.

Blackcircles.com says…

“Customers give a 4.6/5 rating for ‘would buy again’. Feedback highlights the good grip and feel in dry and wet conditions.”
