New Mazda EZ-6 goes on sale in China from £15,000

The EZ-6 is offered with pure-electric and range-extender powertrains

The Chinese-only Mazda EZ-6 has gone on sale priced from 139,800 to 179,800 yuan, roughly £15,000 to £19,000. While Mazda isn’t planning on bringing the sleek saloon to Europe, it does give us a look into the brand’s future design direction and the sort of models we might see in the future.

At over 4.9m long and nearly 1.9m wide, the EZ-6 is both longer and wider than the old Mazda 6, which went off sale in 2023. Although the exterior of the EZ-6 follows Mazda’s ‘Kodo’ design language there’s a significant step change with sharper body design elements, thin LED lights and extra textured lighting around the grille and tailgate. The boot lid even has a rear wing built in that electronically rises above 55mph.

The interior of the EZ-6 features a 14.6-inch touchscreen in the middle of the rather minimalist dash and a head-up display that virtually measures 50 -inches. Other features include a 14-speaker sound system, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof.

Both pure-electric and internal combustion engine powertrains are offered on EZ-6. The EV has a 254bhp rear-mounted electric motor powered by either a 56.1kWh battery with 298 miles of range or a 68.8kWh unit with 372 miles of range (both range figures fall under CLTC testing, China’s own fuel economy and efficiency standards).

A range-extender is also available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 93bhp and an electric motor with 214bhp. Two batteries are offered with the range-extender EZ-6, a 18.9 or a 28.4 kWh battery pack – the smaller providing electric-only range of 65 miles while the larger is capable of 99 miles. The overall range for the petrol hybrid EZ-6 is over 808 miles (again, under the CLTC testing regime).
