New Lotus Exige 350 Special Edition revealed

Lotus claims that its latest limited-run model, the Lotus Exige 350 Special Edition, is saving "the hardest until last"

It seems a week can’t go by without Lotus launching yet another special edition. The Lotus Exige 350 Special Edition is the latest in a line of 50th celebration models, and comes with a long list of lightweight options as standard.

Lotus claims it is saving the “hardest until last” – with the new 350 Special Edition based on the “most extreme Exige to date”. The new model weighs 26kg less than the Exige Sport 350, packing the same supercharged 3.5-litre V6 with 345bhp. It shaves a tenth of a second off the standard car’s 0-62mph sprint (now 3.9 seconds), while also hitting 170mph flat out.

The Special Edition has shed its bulk by using special panels, a lighter battery, different pipework and optimised sound insulation. There’s also a new lightweight centre console with exposed gear shift mechanism – perfect for saving those extra last grams.

It’s only available with a six-speed manual gearbox, while things like the revised front access panel, sculpted body and rear wing all help with aerodynamics. The flat underside and rear diffuser contribute 42kg of downforce at 100mph. Firmer dampers and optimised geometry deliver more responsive handling and a new louvered tailgate lowers the car’s centre of gravity.

The Lotus Exige 350 Special Edition comes in four colours. Essex Blue, Old English White, Dark Metallic Grey and Motorsport Black are all available, and come with contrasting racing stripes. Bright red brake calipers are covered by lightweight forged alloy wheels, while other details are finished in matt black.

Standard equipment includes crusie control and floor mats, with Bluetooth connectivity and an integrated in-car infotainment system can also be specified. Prices start at £61,900.
