How to replace the screen wiper assembly

Noisy or inefficient wipers are easily cured by replacing the mechanism and/or the motor, as Ed Evans shows.

When Mrs E’s Freelander 1 develops the slightest rattle or squeak, urgent attention is demanded, regardless of whether I declare the offending noise as being immaterial to the running of the vehicle, or that something far more serious has dropped off one of my own trucks.

In this case, the very slight squeak was coming from the screen wipers and, after confirming it wasn’t simply a dodgy wiper blade, I decided it needed to be eliminated on safety grounds. Any noise or loose or jerky movement from the screen wipers on any Land Rover means that trouble is developing, so the sooner it’s fixed, the better, because if the wipers fail in foul weather, the car becomes instantly undriveable.
