Jaguar F-Type V6S

The Jaguar F-Type is a fine sports car and even more desirable than the Audi. But it has to give best to the Boxster in this encounter.

One thing is certain in this line-up – the F-Type stands out. The taut lines, long nose and short tail give it a pure sports car shape, and it looks far more distinctive than the brash Audi and smooth Porsche.

Inside, the simple yet stylish dash has an air of Audi, thanks to the use of dark, soft-touch plastics and silver trim. And the supercharged V6’s distinctive engine note has an edge over its rivals for aural thrills.

Over 120bhp separates these cars, but their weight differences mean acceleration is very similar. Importantly, the F-Type more than holds its own through corners. There’s plenty of steering feedback and turn-in is quick, while a wide track gives lots of grip.

It’s more entertaining than the Audi, and while the Jag doesn’t quite have the sharp responses of the Porsche, the 50:50 weight distribution makes it one of the best-handling rear-driven cars we’ve tried.

Even better, the F-Type S has adaptive dampers as standard. At their softest the car is still firm, but it’s not uncomfortable and is relaxing on the motorway.

Overall, the Jaguar delivers a great mix of performance and handling, and it’s also a good sporting GT. But is it the best sports car you can buy?
