Unusual bold looks and a mighty V8 engine work in the FX50’s favour and, for some, the exclusivity offered by this Limited Edition model will be a draw. But the interior feels cheap, despite the £6,000 price premium over the standard SUV, and a rock-hard ride further dents this Infiniti’s appeal.

it’s the rarest Infiniti yet! Only 18 examples of the Limited Edition FX SUV are coming to the UK, with a mere 100 being built in total. So what makes it so special?

There’s a choice of two exterior colours, both with the company’s scratch-resistant paint. Our car was finished in a pearlescent Moonlight, but you can also order Obsidian Black. Completing the updates is a set of 21-inch ‘turbine’ alloys and graphite-coloured roof rails and vents.

Inside, the dash and seats get quality stitched leather trim and the headlining Alcantara. However, the dials and carbon fibre centre console look cheap.

There’s no shortage of kit, though. Cameras placed around the car provide a 360-degree bird’s eye view, and there’s intelligent cruise control, too.

Under the bonnet is a 385bhp 5.0-litre V8, which takes the FX50 from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds. The trade-off is 310g/km of CO2 and dismal 21.7mpg economy.

Adaptive dampers ensure the FX handles well, but the ride crashes over uneven road surfaces, and gets worse when you press the Sport button. Priced at £62,035, this Infiniti faces a tough battle to match sharper and more refined rivals from BMW and Audi – no matter how exclusive it is!
