Ford Focus MP3

If you think MP3 is a trio of politicians or maybe the latest boyband, then you're not keeping up with recent advances in technology. MP3 allows music to be stored digitally and downloaded from the Internet.

Forget the gimmicky hi-fi and look at this special-edition Focus as a cut-price three-door Zetec complete with 17-inch multispoke alloys and blue metallic paint. However, if you are a music fan, you'll be entertained by the standard MP3 player, which not only allows 10 hours of playback from one disc, but also incorporates a standard CD player and RDS radio.

If you think MP3 is a trio of politicians or maybe the latest boyband, then you're not keeping up with recent advances in technology. MP3 allows music to be stored digitally and downloaded from the Internet.

To listen to the tracks saved on your home computer while on the move, you can either buy a mobile MP3 player, or burn your songs on to a CD and play them on a specially adapted system like the one found in this limited-edition Focus MP3. What's the point? Well, one MP3 CD contains 250 files - which equates to a lengthy 10 hours of music.

The new system is just as easy to use as a conventional in-car CD player, and the ID3 tag display shows the name of the track and the artist automatically. Ford's system also allows standard compact discs to be played, and incorporates an RDS radio, too.

Look on the tailgate and you won't find an MP3 badge, but the car does come with blue metallic paint and a set of 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels. The MP3 is available only in three-door form with Ford's 113bhp 1.8-litre Zetec engine under the bonnet. A rear tailgate spoiler and chrome exhaust pipe are on the options list for those who want to complete the sporty look.

It may be a gimmick, but the Focus MP3 can save you money as well as keep you entertained. Priced £11,995, this special undercuts the standard three-door Zetec by £250, and is right on track for those looking to save cash.
