Bond’s Aston sells for £2.6m

007's gadget-packed Aston Martin DB5 goes under the hammer in London.

Aston Martin DB5

It's one of the most famous movie cars ever, but it seems even collectors have been hit by the recession. James Bond’s tricked-out silver Aston Martin went under the hammer for £2.6million (Issue 1,139), but that was only half the pre-sale estimates.

The 31,000-miler is the only surviving DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the chase sequences from Goldfinger and Thunderball. It’s packed with gadgets including fake machine guns, revolving number plates, a pop-up bulletproof shield and the famous oil-slick sprayer.

It was bought by US fan Harry Yeaggy, one of only two bidders, who plans to display it in a museum in the States.
