GT

All of the cars in this line-up are fast Fords, but only one can claim to be the fastest: the GT. Introduced to celebrate the blue oval’s 100th birthday, it has the performance, power and looks to take on exotic rivals from Ferrari and Lamborghini. While the shape is influenced by the Sixties GT40, the GT has 21st Century driving dynamics, and its supercharged 5.4-litre V8 pumps out 500bhp. The sprint from 0-60mph takes exactly four seconds and it’ll keep accelerating strongly to a top speed of 205mph.

Better still, the engine’s soundtrack of deep V8 bellow and high-pitched supercharger whine is present at any speed.

Point the GT’s low nose at a corner, and you’ll be amazed by its agility. Despite its dimensions, the Ford is as user-friendly as the lightweight Lotus Elise, and benefits from accurate, feedback-packed steering and a slick, short-throw gearshift. The downsides were the £120k price and that only 28 were officially imported to the UK.
