Best sportscars

Which sportscars offer the best driving experience, and deliver the biggest adrenaline hit, our survey reveals all.

There's a new name at the top of the charts for best sportscars in 2011. Step forward the stylish Volkswagen Scirocco.

Merging competitive running costs with a body designed to stand out from the crowd, the first placed model is more of a sporty three-door than a traditional coupé, but that hasn’t hampered its appeal.

In terms of raw percentage scores there isn’t much separating the top three models in this class, yet it’s the VW that’s the clear winner.

Second place goes to Mazda’s ever-popular MX-5. Now offered with a choice of either a fabric hood or a more refined folding metal hard-top, the two-seater is everything a roadster should be – fun, affordable and just powerful enough to be fun in all driving conditions.

Only a serious lack of practicality has held the MX-5 back from an even higher rating. Third place goes to another sports car legend.

Audi’s TT is a style icon whether you choose the coupe or the roadster. Its appeal is just as strong as ever, helping it to a fine score of 87.10%. Hyundai’s Coupe and Audi’s A5 complete the Sports car class top five.

What you said: "Its fantastic. For the performance available and the amazing styling it's superbly economical and unbelievably practical!" - VW Scirocco Owner

"For its size and performance I've not driven a car that gives as much pleasure as this one!" - MX-5 Driver
