Before joining Auto Express, Shane previously worked as a radio producer and presenter. However, he soon realised that he couldn’t shake his love for all things car-related, so he joined our team in 2021. In his role as senior content editor he is responsible for looking after the day-to-day running of the Auto Express website and social media channels.

Shane says…

“It truly is an exciting time for both car buyers and enthusiasts. While some may resent the switch to electric power, there’s no denying that we find ourselves living in a historic moment. Not only is it great to be at the forefront of motoring breakthroughs, but it’s also highly rewarding to be able to help our readers understand and enjoy the latest that the automotive industry has to offer.”

Shane Wilkinson Q&A

Q: What was your first car?

A: “A badly-repainted 1987 Austin Mini City E. I was determined to own a Mini, so my naive 17-year old self bought the cheapest one in the classifieds. It survived the initial 180-mile trip home, but spent the rest of our time together finding increasingly-expensive ways to not work. This car completely ruined me financially and increased my local bus company’s profits by several hundreds of pounds. Now I’m aware that it’s back on the road, though, I want it back more than anything.”

Q: What is your dream car?

A: “My answer to this question changes on an hourly basis, but right now it has to be the Aston Martin DB9. Its bewitching design combined with the symphony of that 5.9-litre V12 is pure perfection in my eyes. Sure, the DB9 is starting to show its age, and the shadow of the DBS always looms over it, but I just don’t care.”

Q: If you could change one thing about cars, driving or the car industry today what would it be?

A: “One thing I would change is this sudden obsession to make everything touchscreen operated. Nobody has ever needed more submenus or reasons to take their eyes off the road”.
