Audi S8 Plus unveiled with 597bhp

Audi has announced its fastest ever ’S’ model – capable of 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and 189mph top speed

The new Audi S8 Plus has been revealed, featuring an uprated engine, new bodykit and Dynamic Package lifting the top speed to 189mph.

Under the bonnet is the same 4.0-litre TFSI V8 engine as in the regular S8, but power has been boosted by 84bhp to 597bhp. That enables the S8 Plus to achieve a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds, giving it better acceleration than not just the S8 but also its main rivals, the BMW 760i and Mercedes-AMG S 65.

The S8 Plus will also take advantage of new technologies to improve the overall driving experience. Sport Adaptive Air Suspension will come as standard and will work together with a Dynamic Steering system tuned specifically for the Plus to improve handling and ride comfort.

New visual elements will also mark out the S8 Plus as the sportiest A8. The car will feature a new rear spoiler, dashes of carbon fibre and a host of other modifications such as darkened tail-lights and a gloss black grille. A new, exclusive ‘Floret Silver’ matt paint option will be offered, too, as will new 21-inch alloys.

Also available with the S8 Plus is the Dynamic Package. This is standard on models in Germany but optional on UK cars, and brings performance upgrades such as carbon fibre-reinforced brakes and the removal of the 155mph speed limiter.

As a result, the S8 Plus with Dynamic Package will rocket all the way to nearly 190mph – more than all its main rivals. Prices for this package are unconfirmed, but an Audi spokesperson said we can expect it to cost “less than £10,000”.

The S8 Plus will offer numerous other luxuries as standard, such as a full leather interior package, Matrix LED headlights, a BOSE surround system and keyless entry. A sports exhaust is also standard on all S8 Plus models.

UK order books open in October, with the S8 Plus priced from £97,700.
