There's a lot to like about PURE’s latest in-car adaptor, the Highway 300Di. It’s ideal for upgrading older cars, as it provides digital radio, plus an iPod and USB connection, so you don’t have to bin your factory-fitted stereo.
We had one fitted to a 2006 Toyota Yaris by PURE partner Halfords. The Highway connects directly to the head unit via an aux socket or tunes in through the FM aerial. The remote (which is removable for security), can be mounted pretty much anywhere, and the aux and USB leads run to the glovebox. The aerial sits on the screen and works through the glass, so there are no holes.
The Highway takes a few seconds to boot up and uses one FM preset to tune in. The aux and USB sockets work seamlessly, with good sound and remote control for music on memory sticks. Connect your iPod and you can select by artist, album, song, playlist or genre, and it will also charge the device.
Less impressive is the digital radio. There’s a delay switching between stations, but coverage is the problem. We had no trouble with national stations, but local ones dropped out occasionally.
