Volkswagen up!

The up! was the first of the VW Group’s new city cars, and still has the measure of its Skoda Citigo and SEAT Mii sister models on residuals.

Three-year values range from 47.8 per cent for the 1.0 (60) Move up! five-door to 52.6 per cent for the new Groove up!. In comparison, the Mii holds on to between 44.1 and 51.5 per cent, and the Citigo between 42.8 and 47.9 per cent.

Why is this? Well, image counts for a lot, with VWs still seen as more reliable and desirable – even though all three cars are built at the same factory in Slovakia. Our residuals champ, the Groove up!, is a special edition with 16-inch alloy wheels, tinted back windows, sat-nav and a Fender stereo.

And it follows on from the now discontinued launch specials, the up! Black and up! White, which still have 52.8 per cent residuals.
