New VW Transporter Bluemotion claims over 50mpg

Volkswagen has applied its Bluemotion fuel-saving tech to the Transporter van and the result is a claimed 51.4mpg combined

Volkswagen Transporter Bluemotion

VW has introduced a new fuel-sipping Bluemotion version of the Transporter panel van priced from £19,670 exc VAT. With VAT the cost rises to £24,591.

The short wheelbase version of the T6 van is powered by a 102bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine which is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. VW claims combined cycle economy of 51.4mpg an 145g/km of CO2. That’s an improvement of 3.5mpg and reduction of 8g/km over the standard Transporter in it's greenest specification.

The improvements in efficiency are a result of a range of aerodynamic tweaks VW has made to the Transporter. The suspension has been lowered, low rolling resistance tyres have been fitted, while modified gear ratios and cruise control have also been added. Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems also feature.

VW isn’t the only manufacturer to bring an eco version of one of its van to the market. Vauxhall has an ecoFLEX version of the Vivaro but it isn’t as efficient as the Transporter Bluemotion, returning a claimed 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 155g/km.
