Just so you know, this is an older review of the 2016-2024 Volkswagen Tiguan. If you are interested in information about the reliability of the latest Volkswagen Tiguan, or news of upcoming Volkswagen models, please follow the links provided.

The Tiguan finished in 58th place out of 75 cars in our 2023 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, which is a decline from its 45th place finish in 2022. Volkswagen itself performed quite poorly in our best manufacturer rankings, finishing in 27th place out of 32 brands. Volkswagen’s sister brands, Skoda and SEAT, both ranked higher.

Industry safety body Euro NCAP rated the Tiguan highly when it was originally tested in 2016, awarding the car a full five stars.. Adult occupant protection scored 96 per cent, while overall security for child passengers was rated at 84 per cent. However, it’s important to note that the testing criteria has been updated since then, so this rating has now expired.

Entry-level cars feature Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist with Road Edge Recognition and an automatic hazard light function that activates under emergency braking. Standard driver-assistance systems also include adaptive cruise control, Dynamic Road Sign Display, a driver fatigue system and front and rear parking sensors.

Elegance-spec versions and above all include Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Front Assist and a rear traffic alert, which warns of other vehicles approaching from the sides while you're reversing out of a driveway or parking space.

Warranty

Like any other VW on sale, the Tiguan comes with an industry standard three-year/60,000 mile warranty. There is also the option of extending that time period for a set fee.

Servicing

Service intervals are flexible, but VW recommends that the Tiguan is serviced every year or between 10,000 and 18,000 miles. But this could vary depending on how the car is being driven.
