New Volkswagen Tiguan Black Edition line up expands

The Volkswagen Tiguan Black Edition trim level will be available with hybrid power

Volkswagen Tiguan Black Edition - front

An all-new Volkswagen Tiguan is on the horizon, but before the current generation model bows out, Volkswagen gave it a boost by launching a new Black Edition - which has just been extended to include four more powertrains.

The Tiguan Black Edition was initially launched in March with two engines - a 1.5-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI, priced at £38,755 and £40,945 respectively. Two more petrol (one of which is the eHybrid powertrain) and two more diesel engines now join the Black Edition selection and every Tiguan with this trim level still comes with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Sitting above the 148bhp 1.5-litre TSI is the £42,340 2.0-litre TSI with 187bhp. After this is the 1.4-litre eHybrid plug-in hybrid model with 242bhp starting from £42,835. The diesels start at £42,930 for the 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI and £45,275 for the 197bhp 2.0-litre TDI.

The Black Edition is positioned between the R-Line Edition and the full-fat Tiguan R hot SUV. With the same sculpted front bumper and larger lower grille, the Black Edition looks similar to the R-Line - albeit with dark trim elements and black door mirror caps. A set of black 20-inch alloys completes the makeover, with metallic paint and a panoramic sunroof also included in the price.

LED headlights are fitted as standard, along with a fully digital instrument panel and a larger 9.2-inch infotainment screen than lesser Tiguans. The system is equipped with Volkswagen’s Discover Media navigation, and other luxuries - such as heated front seats, a DAB radio and adaptive cruise control - are thrown in as well.

The new model joins other Black Edition SUVs in Volkswagen’s line-up, including the smaller T-Cross and flagship Touareg. As part of the Black Edition’s release, Volkswagen is offering a £1,500 deposit contribution as part of its in-house personal contract plan until the end of September.
