New 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross facelift brings big redesign

Volkswagen’s baby SUV has received its mid-life update and the facelifted T-Cross will be on sale later this year

Volkswagen’s SUV line up is undergoing a bit of a revamp with the updated T-Roc plus the all-new Tiguan and Touareg. Now the brand’s smallest SUV, the T-Cross, is also getting a refresh.

After a series of spy shots, we can now reveal the facelifted VW T-Cross in full, destined to go on sale in the UK in late 2023 ahead of first customer deliveries in early 2024. Volkswagen’s tweaks to the T-Cross extend from exterior design changes to a cabin with uprated levels of equipment.

Since the T-Cross launched, rivals like the Citroen C3 Aircross, Renault Captur and Nissan Juke have all been given updates or come out as completely new models. There’s also the ever-present threat from within the Volkswagen Group from the Seat Arona and Skoda Kamiq. Volkswagen even has its own potential rival as of last year in the shape of the new Taigo, a car based on a T-Cross but representing a more style-conscious alternative thanks to a coupe-like roofline.

To help the T-Cross stand out in this tough and crowded segment, the new car gets new front bumper and restyled fog lights, plus fresh LED headlights with VW’s matrix ‘IQ.Light’ technology. The rear also gets a new light signature, cross hatched rear bumper trim and repositioned rear reflectors. Three new colours have been added to the T-Cross, Grape Yellow, Clear Blue Metallic and Kings Red Metallic.

The changes aren’t limited to the outside. The interior of the T-Cross now features a redesigned dash panel made of ‘higher-quality’ softer material with an eight-inch touchscreen as standard or a 9.2-inch screen on higher models. The back-lit touch slider controls for the climate control system are only available as an option.

As standard, the T-Cross gets LED headlights, a multifunction camera and road sign recognition. 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel and sportier exterior trims will be made available on higher-spec models.

Volkswagen says the T-Cross will be powered by TSI engines, so we expect the same lineup of 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with either 94bhp or 109bhp and a 1.5-litre petrol with 148bhp.

Pricing is still yet to be announced but we expect a small increase on the current car’s £23,470 starting price tag.
