Best tow car £30,000 - £33,000: Volkswagen Golf Estate Alltrack

The best tow car in the £30,000 - £33,000 price bracket for 2018 is the Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack 2.0 TDI 4MOTION 184PS DSG

Last year’s overall winner was the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, and this year its smaller sibling picks up an award – the Volkswagen Golf Estate Alltrack is the judges’ pick in the £30,000 - £33,000 category.

The 2018 class victor features the 187bhp 2.0-litre TDI unit. Judges said that the additional grunt allied to the dual-clutch automatic gearbox made for a “seemingly endless reserve of power”.

Under assessment, a 30mph to 60mph burst was achieved in 10.1 seconds with a caravan in tow, while the judging panel was impressed with the Golf Estate Alltrack’s surefooted handling, body control, and comfortable ride.

In terms of fuel economy, Volkswagen claims an official figure of 54.3mpg, while CO2 comes in at 137g/km.
