New Volkswagen ID.7 GTX performance EV gets £61,980 price tag

The hot Volskwagen ID.7 GTX is available in hatchback and ‘Tourer’ estate bodystyles

Volkswagen has launched the latest cars in its performance-focused, GTX electric car range in the shape of the ID.7 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer - both of which go on sale from Thursday 1 August.

The VW ID.7 GTX hatchback costs £61,980 while the Tourer is priced at £62,670 - both prices representing a £6,530 premium over the equivalent ID.7 Pro S models. Larger than the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4, the ID.7 GTX should provide close competition to the BMW i5 (which starts at £67,695) and the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron.

Receiving Volkswagen’s dual-motor, all-wheel drive set up with the same 86kWh battery as the Pro S, the GTX offers 335bhp (up from 282bhp in the Pro S), allowing for a 5.4-second 0-62mph time in the hatch with the Tourer taking 0.1 seconds longer to complete the sprint.

As expected, range takes a hit compared to the 437-mile rating of the Pro S. The GTX tops out at 366 miles and the GTX Tourer 359 miles. Charging speeds remain the same as in the Pro S at 200kW - meaning a 10 to 80 per cent top up takes 26 minutes. To help ensure this charging speed is achievable all year round, the GTX comes with battery management and active pre-conditioning.

The GTX gets a number of unique touches over the rest of the ID.7 range to mark it out as the sporty flagship. This includes a new grille insert at the front and a revised rear bumper, 20-inch wheels, GTX badging, bespoke LED headlights and blacked-out window trim. The ‘King’s Red’ paint is bespoke to the GTX and there’s the option to add 21-inch wheels, too.

Inside you’ll find ventilated and heated massage sports seats along with heated rear seats, red stitching and trim accents throughout the cabin, an uprated sound system, an augmented-reality head-up display and Volkswagen’s new ‘IDA’ voice assistant. Boot space for the ID.7 GTX stands at 532 litres while the GTX Tourer gets 605 litres.
