VW revealed the new Golf SV at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September. Exterior changes are typically subtle, but the Golf SV now benefits from revised bumpers front and rear, a lightly tweaked grille, LED headlights on top trims and LED tail-lights. A new Cranberry Red exterior colour (shown in these images) and a fresh range of alloy wheels complete the visual changes.

Inside, you'll find new fabrics and materials aimed at boosting perceived quality, but the biggest news is the introduction of the new Discover Pro navigation system on flagship models. The 9.2-inch touchscreen features capacitive touch buttons down the side, plus tech such as gesture control and increased smartphone connectivity. An eight-inch display is standard kit lower down the range.

New safety technology is also available on the Golf SV, including Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. There's also Traffic Jam assist (low-speed adaptive cruise control that works up to 37mph), an updated Park Assist system and Trailer Assist.

For the base price of £20,475, buyers get an 84bhp 1.0 TSI model in S trim with a five-speed-manual gearbox. A perkier 1.0-litre option is available too, sending 113bhp through either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG ‘box. A 1.6 TDI engine is also available on S trim, which comes with an eight-inch infotainment screen as standard, along with LED daytime running lights and DAB radio.

In SE trim, VW’s all-new 128bhp 1.5-litre TSI engine is available from £23,095 for the six-speed-manual.  The engine features Active Cylinder Technology and produces 128bhp. SE trim comes with safety features such as parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. The SE model comes with an entry-level 114bhp 1.0 TSI for £21,565 and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel producing 148bhp tops the range.

Next on offer is SE Nav from £22,315, which comes with a Discover navigation system and a three-year subscription to Car-Net’s ‘Guide and Inform’ that connects your Golf SV with your smartphone.

From £23,445, customers can opt for the top-spec GT trim. It adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, rear tinted glass and ambient lighting as standard. It also offers the Golf SV’s best performance, with the 128bhp 1.5 TSI boasting a 0-62mph figure of 8.3 seconds. At £28,595, the 148bhp 2.0 TDI in GT trim is the highest spec Golf SV.

Additional autonomous safety features are available among the options list, including the first time VW’s Traffic Jam Assist becomes available on the Golf SV, which scans traffic in front in order to accelerate and brake accordingly. Park Assist and Emergency Assist also features among the options for VW’s revamped MPV.
