Volkswagen Caddy gets extra kit with sporty Black Edition

Volkswagen has revealed another Black Edition version of its Caddy, offering exclusive touches and extra kit at a premium

Blacked-out limited edition cars seem to be on the rise at the moment, and Volkswagen is the latest manufacturer to get in on the act, revealing a Black Edition Caddy. It’ll go on sale at the end of November, costing £19,370 before VAT.

The Caddy is of course not a car but a van, so what we’re looking at here is a high specification, limited production run version of VW’s smallest commercial vehicle.

Volkswagen has done Black Edition versions of its Caddy before, and just like the previous generation version, this is a van hyped up for offering generous levels of kit and equipment for less than it would cost to spec on a standard model.

After VAT, the Black edition Caddy commands a £800 premium over the starting price of the Highline – the current range topper – but VW says the equipment list and exclusive touches on the Black Edition would otherwise cost an extra £2,000.

On the outside, the Caddy gets an exclusive lick of Deep Black pearlescent paint, as well as black roof rails, colour coded bumpers and mirrors, 17-inch two-tone black and silver alloy wheels, plus lowered suspension – the Caddy Black is dropped by 27mm to appear sportier.

In the cabin you’ll find full carpeting, a leather multi-function steering wheel and gearknob, air conditioning and a heated windscreen. Cruise control, a DAB+ radio, and VW’s Driver Alert System – a safety feature that detects if tiredness is affecting your driving – are all standard too.

It gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine with 101bhp, which Volkswagen claims returns 60.1mpg on a combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 123g/km. Space in the back remains at 3,200-litres, with a maximum payload of 628kg.

Volkswagen says its special edition vans are always popular, but has plans to make only 500 Black Edition Caddy.
