Vauxhall Insignia GSi Sports Tourer revealed for Frankfurt

Vauxhall will add a hot estate to its line-up with a GSi version of the Insignia Sport Tourer

Vauxhall has revealed an estate bodied stablemate for the new 257bhp Insignia GSi Grand Sport – the Insignia GSi Sports Tourer. It’ll make its public debut in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

Styling tweaks are kept strictly in line with the looks of the Grand Sport GSi. That means large 20-inch alloy wheels plus a new bodykit. It gets an aggressive front apron, boasting large vents with brushed metal inserts, new side skirts, and a new rear bumper with two large exhaust exits. The estate rear end means it gets a different tailgate and bootlid spoiler.

Unlike the saloon though, the GSi sports Tourer will be offered with two engine choices. Alongside a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, producing 257bhp and 400Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 152mph, a hot diesel variant will be offered too.

The GSi BiTurbo diesel makes use of a twin-turbo 2.0-litre engine, producing 198bhp and 480Nm of torque. With this engine on board, 0-62mph takes 7.9 seconds, while top speed comes in at 143mph. Both engines are mated to eight-speed gearboxes sending power to an all-wheel-drive system.

In terms of fuel economy, the diesel returns 38.7mpg combined on the NEDC cycle, with the more potent and thirstier petrol delivering 32.5mpg.

The unique chassis and suspension tweaks heading the way of the GSi saloon will be carried over, meaning 10mm shorter springs and new shock absorbers will join a set of Brembo brakes.

Inside, the cabin will be given a racy makeover with sporty seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. It should arrive in UK showrooms alongside the Grand Sport GSi early in 2018.
