VOSA to improve van operating standards

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency has pledged to improve standards of van operation

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) is determined to improve standards of van operation and intends to ramp up the number of roadside inspections and other methods of enforcement activity.

At the third event in the Freight Transport Association's (FTA) Van Excellence conference series, which will take place in Dunblane, the VOSA's focus will be to improve van operating standards and provide operators with the information they need in order to manage their fleets efficiently and safely.

The VOSA's Traffic Enforcement Policy Manager, Gordon MacDonald, will deliver the keynote address at the conference. Other key topics that will be covered in the event include the management of road risk, reducing operational costs, future van technology as well as vehicle specifications.

Mark Cartwright, the FTA's Head of Vans, highlights the importance of the event: "Van Excellence proves that operators are entirely capable of self regulation. FTA applauds the efforts of VOSA to increase general operational standards and we are delighted that VOSA has agreed to come along and provide its views on the issues facing van operators."
