Updated Toyota Verso on the way with new safety tech

Toyota Verso MPV will get interior upgrades and Safety Sense tech for 2016

The European-spec Toyota Verso has been updated with new safety kit, alloy wheels and an updated interior - and the UK model will get the same changes for 2016.

Toyota's Safety Sense will be standard on all new Versos, adding a lane departure warning, automatic high beams and a pre-collision system. This uses a camera and laser on the front of the car to sense a potential crash, alerting the driver with a warning in the cabin telling them to brake. It also primes the brakes and adds extra stopping power, and can even apply the brakes automatically if the driver fails to do so.

The Safety Sense system could reduce insurance costs for the Verso, and new buyers will also be pleased to find a new leather steering wheel and gearstick, plus graphite colouring to improve some other bits of trim. Certain trim levels will get improved cloth and leather seats, too.

A new seven-inch multimedia screen will also appear, using the latest Toyota Touch 2 system for a few useability improvements.

Finally there's a new Platiunum Bronze paint colour and a choice of 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design to spruce up the exterior look.

The updated Verso will be available from February 2016, but there are no details on UK dates or prices yet - check back next week to find out.
