Toyota Verso 2014 MPV gets revised specs and new 1.6-litre BMW diesel engine

The Toyota Verso is the first model from the Japanese manufacturer to adopt an engine from BMW and it will be introduced in the UK in the New Year with new spec options and features. Pricing will also be announced prior to the car’s launch.

The 110bhp 1.6-litre D-4D diesel engine from the BMW Group will replace the old 2.0-litre diesel motor in the line up, with Toyota making extensive modifications to increase efficiency and save weight. Fuel economy is eight per cent better than the engine it replaces, returning a claimed 62.8mpg and emitting 119g/km of CO2.

Along with the entry-level Active, mid-range Icon and top spec Excel trim specifications, a new Trend spec level has also been added to the Verso range for 2014. It slots between the Icon and Excel levels and is denoted by the black C-pillar creating the floating roof effect. The new trim level also adds a five-spoke alloy wheel design and Toyota Touch 2 with Go tech pack, adding sat nav and connected services like Google street view.

All four trim level are available with the 1.6-litre BMW engine while all bar entry-level Active can be specced with the 1.8-litre petrol motor. A smaller 1.6-litre petrol is available for Active trim while those who opt for Icon also have the choice of the smaller petrol engine. Standard kit across the range includes air conditioning, front electric window, USB connectivity, electric heated door mirrors and stability control.

Order books for the new Toyota Verso will open in February with first customer deliveries set to begin in March.
