New soft-top Toyota Aygo X Air Edition launched

Roofless motoring returns to Toyota’s smallest car with new Aygo X Air Edition

Toyota has lifted the lid on its Aygo X Air Edition, a special version of the pumped-up city car that features a roll-back roof as standard. Customers can order the limited-run Aygo X variant exclusively online at prices from £19,045.

The Air Edition isn’t the first time we’ve seen an electric retractable roof on an Aygo, with the previous generation model offering the feature back in 2015. Although it sits at the top of the Aygo X range, the Air Edition is based on the mid-spec Edge model. This means there’s an eight-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a USB port, automatic wipers, voice recognition, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors fitted as standard.

Toyota has given the Air Edition a few cosmetic tweaks as well. There are 18-inch matt black alloy wheels and the front bumper, side sill inserts and wheel spokes are highlighted in the car’s paint finish. This design theme continues to the interior with accents appearing on the seats, door sills, steering wheel, gear shifter and centre console.

The Air Edition model also adds a raft of safety and driver assistance systems, such as pre-collision warning, steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and road sign assist.

Like the rest of the Aygo X range, the Air Edition comes with a 71bhp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine. There’s also a five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic CVT - the latter raising the price to £20,225. The CVT also drops the 0-62mph time by 0.1 seconds to 14.8.
