Toyota Proace Max van goes on sale from £41,580

Toyota’s largest van is now available to order in a multitude of bodystyles

Toyota’s all-new Proace Max is here and it may look strangely familiar. The new large panel van comes as the result of a deal with the Stellantis group which gives Toyota access to the platform behind the Fiat Ducato, Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer and Vauxhall Movano. The top of Toyota’s light commercial vehicle range, the Toyota Proace Max is offered with diesel or all-electric power.

Toyota’s revamped Proace range starts with the Proace City small van, then progresses to the Proace mid-size van while throwing-in the Hilux pick-up for good measure before topping out with this Max. The new Proace Max is on sale now with first deliveries expected from September.

The diesel engine in the Proace Max is a turbocharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder unit with 138bhp with 350Nm of torque in the six-speed manual (reducing to 280Nm of torque for the eight-speed automatic transmission version). Gross vehicle weight for all diesel versions is 3.5 tonnes with the electric models standing at 4.25 tonnes - the Proace Max Electric also qualifies for Government-funded grant support towards the purchase cost.

The electric model comes with a 110kWh battery, 268bhp and 410Nm of torque. Maximum range stands at 260 miles and there’s a selection of three driving modes to alter various parameters between performance and efficiency. The battery supports a 150kW recharge rate with a 0 to 80 per cent top up taking 55 minutes.

Unsurprisingly, the diesel versions of the Proace Max are cheaper, with the Chassis cab L3 coming in at £41,580. The cheapest van-bodied Proace Max is the panel van L2H2 at £43,630 with the larger L3H3 costing from £45,580.

The Proace Max Electric can be had as an L3 Chassis cab from £60,180 or as a panel van in L3H2, L3H3 and L4H3 sizes - ranging from £62,375 to £64,325 in price.

There’s only one trim level on the Proace Max - the ‘Icon’. Standard equipment includes a new 10-inch touchscreen with in-built sat-nav, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.
