The SZ-L edition adds some visual sparkle to the Swift. Although it’s unashamedly aimed at younger buyers, it feels just as energetic as
the standard model from behind the wheel. Available from just £10,899 in three- door form, or £11,316 with five doors, it represents excellent value, too

Hot hatches are great fun in their element, but most customers these days want sportier looks without the running costs. Skoda has had success with its funky red and black Fabia Monte Carlo, and now Suzuki is following suit.

The Swift SZ-L starts life as a 1.2-litre SZ3 model, which already comes with seven airbags, air-con and Bluetooth as
standard. It adds LED running lights, either Boost Blue or Cosmic Black
metallic paint, and a white roof, rear spoiler and door mirrors. Inside there’s silver stitching on the steering wheel and gearlever, plus unique fabric for the seats. It’s not a subtle look, but if you’re over 25, it’s not really aimed at you.

The mechanical package is identical, so the Swift still drives with verve.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine needs
encouragement to get going, but once it does, the responsive steering, satisfying gearchange and appetite for corners make it ideal for zipping around town. The Ford Fiesta is sharper to drive, but you’ll have just as much fun in the Swift.
