SEAT news and reviews

The entry-level S cars – available with a 104bhp 1.2 TSI or 1.6 TDI engine – come as standard with air-con, Bluetooth, a touchscreen display and seven airbags but buyers can upgrade to SE for an extra £1,100.

That expands the equipment list to include things like a leather wrapped steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, 16-inch alloys, cruise control and front fog lights.

Sitting at the top of the range are sporty FR models, though these are only available with the more powerful 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines. The 1.4 TSI is the cheapest at £20,390, and as well as the FR’s sporty bodykit it also gets 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights and lowered sports suspension.

The Leon ST starts from more than £1,000 cheaper than the VW Golf Estate, but it’s around £1,000 more expensive than the Toyota Auris Touring Sports and almost exactly the same price as the Skoda Octavia Estate. SEAT has also introduced a new Leon ST Ecomotive model, which starts from £20,485. Powered by a 1.6 TDI engine with 108bhp this car is capable of more than 80mpg and boasts CO2 emissions of 87g/km.

The ST has a 587-litre boot – that’s 207 litres bigger than the hatch – but it’s not quite as spacious as the 610-litre Octavia Estate or Golf Estate, which has 605 litres. The extra boot space comes from a 270mm increase in the car’s length, although the wheelbase (and so rear legroom) remains the same.
