SEAT Leon Cupra R is now sold out in UK

SEAT announces that all 24 UK-bound examples of its hottest model ever, the 306bhp Leon Cupra R, have now been allocated

After prices were revealed late last year, SEAT has announced that its new Leon Cupra R is now sold out in Britain. Just 24 examples of the hardcore 306bhp hot hatch were allocated to the UK market, and all have been snapped up ahead of deliveries beginning later this month.

The limited-run hot Cupra R was priced at £34,995, which is a £4,540 premium over a standard Leon Cupra. 799 examples are to be produced in total, and the small UK allocation makes it one of the most exclusive hot hatchbacks ever sold here.

The Leon Cupra R gets a retuned version of the regular Cupra’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which develops 306bhp. That’s enough to make it the most powerful production model in the Spanish manufacturer’s history. It will be front-wheel drive only, and use a six-speed manual gearbox in the UK; a seven-speed DSG model is not offered over here.

SEAT has also confirmed the Cupra R is capable of 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds and can hit a top speed of 155mph.

Two exterior colours are offered to buyers: Monsoon grey and Midnight black. As standard all Cupra R models come wiht 19-inch black and copper alloy wheels, a rear diffuser and a BeatsAudio sound system. Also included is a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and 3D sat nav with eight-inch touchscreen.

Styling tweaks include more aggressive front and rear bumpers, plus a rear diffuser. There’s carbon-fibre detailing on the front splitter, rear spoiler and side skirts, and a copper finish on the wheels and side mirrors. Upgrades continue inside with an Alcantara steering wheel and gearstick, while the copper treatment on the exterior is also found on the centre console, dash and door panels.

As we revealed in August, SEAT plans to expand the Cupra brand, and has filed trademark applications for new badges that could adorn models in their own right.
