Renault unveils Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy

Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy is revealed, aimed at breaking the Nurburgring FWD lap record

This is the special-edition Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy, revealed by Renault ahead of its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. It’s the latest in a long line of exclusive, performance-focused Renaultsport models, and it could offer hot hatch fans a chance to buy their very own slice of history.

That’s because the new highly-tuned Megane is Renault’s attempt to reclaim the Nurburgring lap record for a front-wheel drive production car, a title currently held by the SEAT Leon Cupra 280

Teased by the French manufacturer last month on social media, the 275 Trophy will have to beat the SEAT’s time of 7 minutes 58.4 seconds. To boost its chances, Renaultsport engineers have upgraded the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in the Megane RS from 261bhp to 271bhp.

Underpinning the RS 275 Trophy is the stiffer Cup chassis with a limited slip differential also fitted as standard. A lightweight titanium exhaust system sourced from Akrapovic has been fitted as well – finished in carbon and providing a more aggressive engine note.

In order for any record to stand, any features added to the Megane lapping the Nurburgring must also be offered to customers. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and adjustable Ohlins Road & Track dampers with steel springs will therefore be sold as optional extras.

To mark it out visually, Trophy branding is printed on the front F1-style silver blade. The silver colour scheme continues at the rear, with Renault using it for the chequered flag graphic at the bottom of the doors. Optional 19-inch black Speedline Turini alloys are also available.

Inside, Recaro bucket seats are trimmed in leather and Alcantara, with the headrests featuring Renaultsport branding. Red stitching is used throughout the cabin, making its way onto the steering wheel, handbrake, and seats. Elsewhere, the sill guards have been numbered for added exclusivity, and there’s an alloy gear lever.

Although there’s currently no word from Renault on prices or specification, full details will be revealed in June, possibly to coincide with an update on the record attempt scheduled for the 16th.
