Silver Cross Discover i-Size booster car seat review

The Silver Cross Discover i-Size is a premium booster car seat that majors on high quality materials and safety kit

Verdict

The Silver Cross Discover i-Size is a premium high-back booster seat that comes with plenty of features. It’s not cheap, but the materials are high quality, it’s comfortable and relatively easy to install.

High-back booster seats offer extra protection over traditional booster seats, so are a popular choice with parents across the country. However, with so many options on the market, it can be slightly overwhelming when trying to find the right choice.

Most parents (and grandparents) should be familiar with the Silver Cross name, though, as it’s been around since 1877. It’s far more recently that the brand branched into car seats, but it now has a wide range of products available, including the impressive Discover i-Size.

The Silver Cross seats we have tested in the past have always lived up to the brand’s own high standards, and the Discover i-Size is no different. It feels like a luxury product from the moment you take it out of the box. The bamboo materials give it a premium look and feel, but then you’d really expect nothing less from a seat that costs around £175.

That price tag means it’s significantly more expensive than your average booster seat and pricier than most high-back boosters. In fact Silver Cross also produces the cheaper Discover (non i-Size) that retails at around £80. That may seem tempting, but in reality you get what you pay for. The Discover i-Size is the brand’s flagship booster seat and is packed with features, including four recline and 10 different headrest positions.

As mentioned, one of this seat’s biggest selling points is the delightful material. It’s a breathable soft-touch bamboo fabric and it’s great to touch. It stayed remarkably clean during our test (probably more through luck than judgement), but it’s relatively easy to wipe should any spills occur. It’s also good to know that it’s eco friendly, being made from recycled plastic bottles.

Our tester commented how comfortable the seat was on longer journeys, and he never complained when we went on a two-hour trip without stopping. However, the seat depth does seem quite shallow, especially when compared to other premium rivals, such as the BeSafe Flex Fix i-Size.

Installation has always been a strong point for Silver Cross products and the Discover i-Size is very easy to connect to the Isofix anchorage points. It’s a little trickier to take it out as you need both hands to pull the levers simultaneously, but it’s still far easier than some of its rivals.
