New 2021 Porsche Macan facelift gets new look and more power

The Porsche Macan gets a small exterior update, plus a new centre console and revised power outputs across the line-up

Porsche has given its best-selling model - the Macan SUV - another facelift for 2021. The design revisions are subtle, though that’s unsurprising given that the Macan was given a styling update as recently as 2019. Still, there’s a new front bumper with a distinctive body-coloured inlay, as well as a more aggressive rear diffuser with a 3D textured surface.

Sport Design door mirrors are now standard on all models, as are LED headlights featuring Porsche’s Dynamic Light System, and there are seven new wheel designs to choose from. There are also 14 additional paint colours, including Papaya Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic and Python Green, as found on other Porsche models.

The interior has also been brought into line with the rest of the range, with a new centre console that uses haptic touch surfaces in place of buttons, although the 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is unchanged.

There’s a stubbier gear selector and a new GT Sports steering wheel, borrowed from the latest 911. Elsewhere, Porsche’s analogue clock atop of the dash comes as standard, while contrasting stitching is now available in Gentian Blue, Papaya and Crayon.

The most significant changes are mechanical, with the Macan, Macan S and Macan GTS all receiving a power increase and chassis revisions.

Kicking off the range, the Macan gets a newly developed turbocharged four-cylinder with 261bhp - a 19bhp boost - allowing the car to reach 62mph from rest in 6.2 seconds.

The Macan S is fitted with a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 that develops 375bhp, a 26bhp increase over the current car. This cuts the 0-62mph time to 4.6 seconds, but it’s the GTS that gets the biggest power bump.

Also using a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, the GTS puts out a useful 59bhp more than before, at 434bhp. This propels the car from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds, and all models put power to the road through a seven-speed PDK gearbox.

Handling dynamics is a Macan strong suit, and Porsche has honed the chassis further with this facelift. The adaptive dampers - standard on the S and GTS - have been re-tuned for sharper responses, while the GTS now rides on standard-fit air suspension. This lowers the ride height by 10mm, and spring rates are up by 10 per cent at the front and 15 per cent at the rear for the GTS. All Macans now get larger wheels as standard.

The facelifted Macan is available to order now, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
