New Porsche 718 Cayman T and Boxster T revealed

Porsche announces the new 718 Cayman T and Boxster T, with prices starting at £51,145

Porsche has revealed the 718 Cayman T and Boxster T, with prices starting at £51,145 for the coupe and £53,006 for the roadster.

As with the 911 Carrera T, the 'Touring' variants present both the Cayman and Boxster in their purest form; stripped of unnecessary weight and equipped as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox - though auto buyers can still choose the automatic ‘PDK’ transmission if they prefer.

The diet includes ditching the regular cars’ bulky infotainment systems, and swapping the standard door pulls for nylon straps. The changes mean that despite the addition of an emissions-dropping exhaust particulate filter, the manual 718 Cayman T tips the scales at 1,350kg.

Both T models will use the smaller of the two engines in the Boxster and Cayman line-ups: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder 'boxer' engine, producing 296bhp and 380Nm of torque. Top speed is 171mph, manual models will accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, and PDK-equipped cars pass the same benchmark two tenths sooner.

Porsche’s Sport Chrono Pack, previously only offered on 2.5-litre 718s, is standard on the T. This offers three switchable driving modes: Normal, Sport and Sport Plus, with the latter two offering increasingly more aggressive throttle maps for the engine management system.

Manual cars gain a rev-matching control for automated heel-and-toe downshifts, while the PDK auto features launch control. In Sport Plus mode, this drops the auto’s 0-62mph time to 4.5 seconds.

Other standard chassis kit includes a torque vectoring system with a mechanical rear differential lock, a sports exhaust with black chrome tips, a sports chassis with a 20mm ride height drop, an active gearbox mount and 20-inch alloy wheels finished in grey.

The cosmetic tweaks for both the Boxster and Cayman T include grey mirror caps and unique badging. The cabin features a sports steering wheel, personalised gauges and sports seats embroidered with the '718' logo. A series of either 'Cayman T' or 'Boxster T' plaques will be fixed to the door sills and dash.

Buyers can choose to re-install the infotainment system if they wish, otherwise a storage compartment takes its place. The new Porsche 718 Cayman T and 718 Boxster T are on sale now.
