New Nissan Leaf Shiro brings starting price down below £29,000

The pioneering all-electric Nissan Leaf has gained a new entry-level 'Shiro' version

Nissan Leaf Shiro

The Nissan Leaf helped popularise EVs when it launched in 2010 as one of the first affordable, family-focused electric cars on the UK market. Now Nissan has reduced the entry price of the second-generation Leaf by adding the new Shiro edition.

Starting from £28,495, the Leaf Shiro is based on the N-Connecta trim but Nissan says it has over £1,000 of additional equipment while costing £2,000 less.

On sale now, the Shiro still gets Nissan ProPILOT driver assist system, with Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Keep Assist and an electric handbrake. The interior is upholstered in synthetic leather with cloth inserts, plus there’s a ‘Heat Pack’ which includes heated seats front and rear and a heated steering wheel.

On the outside the Arctic White paint finish is standard along with 17-inch alloy wheels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated into the free, three-year Zapmap Premium subscription - which helps the driver to find EV charging points.

The Leaf Shiro also gets the lower-capacity 39kWh battery which should allow for the same range as the N-Connecta (168 miles). The acceleration should also be unchanged with a 7.9-second 0-62mph time.
