Nissan confirms next Juke will be built in the UK

Nissan's next Juke will remain British built, securing 34,000 jobs and ensuring £100million of Sunderland investment

Nissan has announced its next Juke crossover, likely to come before 2017, will continue to be built in Britain. It will bring along a considerable investment in the firm's Sunderland plant and continued job security for 34,000 employees.

Although Nissan is tight-lipped about what we can expect from the second-generation Juke, the news will certainly be a boost to the North England plant. The current car consistently finished in the UK's top 10 bestselling cars, and alongside the Qashqai ensures around half a million models are built at the factory.

The announcement will also mean a long-term investment of £100 million to develop the plant for the new model, although Nissan hasn't confirmed what that would involve.

The current Juke has been on sale since 2010 with only minimal updates required to ensure it remains hugely popular across Europe. There's no doubt it's nearing the end of its lifespan, however, so we expect more updates on the next rival for the Vauxhall Mokka at some point in 2016.
