New Nissan GT-R Nismo to cost from £149,995

Nismo version of facelifted Nissan GT-R updated with carbon-fibre parts; now has more downforce than ever

The revised Nissan GT-R Nismo adds upgrades from the Japanese brand’s performance arm to its refreshed GT-R, and finally has a price in the UK: £149,995. It goes on sale from 1 November 2016.

That makes it more expensive than a Porsche 911 Turbo S, which costs £145,773 - although it's the even cheaper 911 GT3 RS that buyers looking for a track car will compare it with. That car costs £131,296 in the UK.

The GT-R Nismo gets the new grille and bumper design from the 2016 car, but its parts are made from carbon-fibre and now generate more downforce than any other Nissan road car ever. It gets upgraded shock absorbers, springs and stabilisers, and combined with the extra downforce Nissan says it’s better to drive than ever.

Slalom times and cornering performance are improved by nearly 2 per cent, according to Nissan’s measurements. You can adjust the settings to suit you as well, using an adaptive damper system.

The engine is unchanged, with the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 592bhp at 6,800rpm and 652Nm of torque from 3,600rpm to 5,600rpm. It uses a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and the engine is hand-built by specially trained technicians.

That means, as before, it will go from 0-62mph in around 2.5 seconds and up to around 200mph.

Nissan’s Nismo upgrades appear inside as well, with a redesigned dashboard, steering wheel and centre armrest using Alcantara and a larger 8-inch display screen on the dash. The button layout has changed to simplify things as well, and a display command control lets you operate the display without having to touch the screen. There are leather Recaro sports seats with red inserts, too.
