Police impound £8m of supercars including rare Ferraris in 3-day anti-social driving crackdown

As part of an anti-social driving clampdown, police seized a Ferrari Monza SP2 alongside Lamborghinis, McLarens and Porsches

UK police have seized one of the most exclusive modern hypercars in existence. A Ferrari Monza SP2, worth around £3.7 million, has been impounded by the Metropolitan Police, alongside 89 other vehicles as part of a crackdown on anti-social driving.

The operation, which took place between Friday, 7 August and Sunday, 9 August in Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea, aimed to tackle instances of uninsured, dangerous and anti-social driving. Over those three days, more than £8 million worth of cars were seized, including several supercars.

Most notable of the cars seized was the aforementioned Ferrari Monza SP2. It was impounded by law enforcement after the driver was not only found to have insufficient insurance, but also lacking a full driving licence. The one-of-499 hypercar wasn’t the only Ferrari confiscated that weekend; a Ferrari 812 Superfast was also impounded by police, as was a Lamborghini Revuelto, a McLaren 600 LT, a Rolls-Royce Wraith and Porsche 911 GT3 among others.

Operation leader, special chief inspector Geoff Tatman, said: “We regularly hear from local people who are fed up with people driving cars dangerously in the area, or with modifications which make them a nuisance to those who live nearby.”

“Through operations like this we’re arresting these drivers and seizing their cars so we can keep our roads safe and send [a] clear message that we won’t put up with their reckless and dangerous behaviour.”

The 120 officers that took part in the operation didn’t just bring supercars back with them to the police station; one man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and money laundering after being found with 19 bank cards and thousands of pounds in cash. Another was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs.

Deputy leader at Westminster City Council, Caroline Sargeant, welcomed the recent police action, pointing out how “The disruption caused by these reckless drivers and boy racers is often worse during the summer months and, as well as putting people at risk, causes significant nuisance for residents and businesses.”
