McMurtry Spéirling Pure unveiled: the ultimate electric track car

The Goodwood hill climb record breaking McMurtry Spéirling will be available to purchase for track days

The McMurtry Spéirling wowed crowds at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, not just with its eye-catching design but also the blistering pace that saw it set a new record up the famous hill climb course. Now the car is being made available to the public with a new version known as the McMurtry Spéirling Pure due on sale soon.

A prototype version of the McMurtry Spéirling Pure will be shown off to the general public at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed event. McMurtry says pre-production prototypes will follow in 2024 ahead of a final production run of 100 units from 2025.

A price tag of £820,000 (excluding VAT) has been set for the Pure. For your money, the car offers almost all of the performance of the astonishing original but with a number of upgrades.

The first commercially-available sealed-skirt fan car, the McMurtry Spéirling Pure comes with some mind-bending specifications and technology. New features on the Pure include a more efficient fan system with a 14 per cent weight reduction, lighter side skirts and a new electronic axle with ‘Goodwood-spec’ acceleration. This contributes to a 190mph top speed.

The 60kWh battery has better cooling and can complete a full charge in 20 minutes. Suspension, braking system, steering and underbody aerodynamics have also been tweaked. The Pure is eligible to enter some forms of competitive motorsport with its carbon-fibre monocoque and slick tyres.

The Pure is shorter than a VW Up! city car and it is narrow too with the single-seat cockpit layout. The wild design of the original Spéirling continues largely unchanged with the huge rear wing, pronounced wheel haunches and vented wings.
