Jeep marks 80th birthday with special Renegade and Wrangler

Jeep’s latest special edition models feature unique styling touches and plenty of standard equipment

Jeep has launched special edition versions of the Renegade and Wrangler SUVs to mark its 80th anniversary. Both can be ordered in the UK from Spring, although prices are yet to be confirmed.

The SUVs feature commemorative “80th Anniversary” badging and unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Jeep has also finished both cars’ exterior trim in contrasting Granite Crystal paint – and the cabin features a pair of new black leather seats which bear the brand’s “80th Anniversary” logo.

Standard equipment for the Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary includes LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and rear privacy glass. Inside, buyers get gloss black dashboard trim, special edition floor mats and an 8.4-inch infotainment system, which has been reconfigured with a unique “Since 1941” graphics pack.

Buyers have a choice of two turbocharged petrol engines – either a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit with 118bhp and 190Nm of torque, or a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit with 148bhp and 270Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard and both send drive to the front wheels.

The Jeep Wrangler 80th Anniversary also comes as standard with LED headlamps, although they’re fitted with an automatic high beam function. Other tweaks include a body-coloured hardtop and a further commemorative plaque for the off-roader’s rear swing gate.

Like the Renegade, the Wrangler’s cabin gets an 8.4-inch infotainment screen – but, it also gets a host of extra equipment. There’s a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, a nine-speaker Alpine stereo system with a 552W subwoofer, deep-pile carpets and a leather-trimmed dash.

There’s also a host of standard safety equipment, including a blind-spot monitoring system, forward collision warning, advanced brake assist and adaptive cruise control. Rear parking sensors also feature, along with a rear parking camera.

Jeep only offers one engine on the Wrangler 80th Anniversary – a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit with 268bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is hitched to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and, like every other model in the Wrangler line-up, it features a permanent four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case.
