MINI Paceman Adventure off-road concept unveiled

MINI reveals pickup Paceman Adventure concept, featuring open load area and "snorkel-like" air intake

MINI has unveiled a two-seater pickup concept based on the Paceman. Called the MINI Paceman Adventure, it’s essentially a design study created by the BMW Group’s young apprentices and their instructors.

Using the Cooper S Paceman as their starting point, this latest creative project features a shortened cabin, the rear seats having been removed to make room for an open load area.

Completing the pickup-look is a modified chassis with improved ground clearance, apparently making the Paceman Adventure suitable for “driving on gravel roads, through muddy tracks or on desert trails.”

If things get really hairy, there’s also a “snorkel-like” air intake at roof level to help tackle river crossings, special deep-tread off-road tyres and additional lights mounted on the roof-rack for added visibility.

In keeping with the more rugged design, MINI has given the Paceman Adventure an exclusive Jungle Green metallic paint scheme.

Power comes from the same turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine used in the Cooper S Paceman, capable of 181bhp and 260Nm of torque, with MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system making its way over, too.

Although there are no plans for a production-version of the concept, fans will be pleased to hear the Paceman has received a facelift for 2014.
