Mercedes S-Class 2014 video review

In this video review we find out if the new Mercedes S-Class really is the best car in the world

Is the Mercedes S-Class the best car in the world? That's what Mercedes insists, so in this video review, we decided to put that claim to the test.

It's the first car ever to ditch lightbulbs completely - it uses 56 LEDs in the headlights, 35 in the taillights and up to 300 in the interior. Inside the cabin, everything is luxurious and robust, with two 12.3 inch screens sitting in the front, complete with hundreds of options. In the rear, choose the executive seat package and you get reclining seats and headrest plus a hot-stone massage function that uses 14 different air cushions.

Under the bonnet, there's a 3-litre V6 diesel in the S350, capable of 51.4mpg or a diesel-electric S300 hybrid that can do 64mpg. There's even a plugin S500 on the way, which is expected to be more efficient than the Toyota Prius. Or, opt for the twin-turbo V8 powered S500, which is capable of 0-60mph in just 4.8 seconds, and even faster than this, an S63 AMG is coming up too.

So, is it the best car in the world? Well, depending on spec, it can cost under £100,000 - that's a third of the price of a Rolls-Royce. And the S-Class is just as refined as a Rolls-Royce, with thicker double glazing, better door sills and aerodynamics contributing to a completely undisturbed ride.
