Mercedes CLS Final Edition is last hurrah of current model

Mercedes launches CLS Final Edition in Europe ahead of all-new replacement hitting showrooms in 2018

Mercedes has unveiled a Final Edition special of its CLS saloon and Shooting Brake. It marks the forthcoming end of production for the current shape CLS, with a new model due for launch in 2018.

Final Edition models, currently only on sale in Europe, are clearly recognisable by unique badging on the wings, and appropriate lettering on the carpets. Additional equipment comes in the form of heated multicontour seats, trimmed in black leather with contrasting light coloured stitching.

A sliding sunroof features, as does heat-insulating tinted glass, sports suspension and LED Multibeam headlights. This equipment benefits the already comprehensive AMG line trim, however the Final Edition is positioned as a further addition to the range and won't be a limited-run special.

Mercedes hasn’t revealed many details regarding the forthcoming CLS replacement, which will be revealed in the second half of 2017 ahead of its launch in 2018. We know it'll use the platform of the new E-Class, with the same engines and tech but in a swoopier, more dramatic body. Sales of the Shooting Brake have been slow compared to the four-door, however, so there's every possibility that we may just see one variant in the UK.

The CLS Final Edition trim commands a premium of €8211 in Europe, which is about £7,000. As yet Mercedes hasn’t given any indication that the UK will receive the Final Edition trim, but a large proportion of the options on it are already standard fitment over here, so it would make sense.
